DescriptionWell, this is it, my first page from BIZ Opus Magunum Horned god :) Been hunting some for the years, and I finally I can add to my collection the great one !This is a grail from many reasons. At the first is it of course nostalgy. Unfortunatelly before 1990s was impossible to get any of british/usa comics books here in Czech. So everything started after 1996 when local publishers had started with publishing comic books. I fell in love with art of BIZ in those years, so when I got to my hands Hornet god (imported from UK) I was so thrilled. It costed me 4 months income from my parents in those years :) At the second this piece is from 1989 so one of the oldest published BIZ pieces and to me one of the best art he ever produced. I love the light, bright colors, overall composition and little details of the battle army in background. Definitelly I love the slime Ukko in the small frame ! ANyway this is very interesting as below the image is describtion - SLaine episode two page 6. BUt in all books I`ve ever read it is part of the first volume page 12. Is it clear the Biz did many pages in the different time period, as the artistic styles are so quite different and in final layout is it very noticable. At the third this is the first (of only two) splash pages which showing Slaine in berserk spasm. At fourth this piece is signed SIMON BISLEY. Most of his arts are signed like BIZ od simply Bisley, so this one is quite unique. I`ve been so lucky (thanks CAF) and grabbed this one immediatelly when this came up to market. I`ve lost many great pieces in due I was waiting too long or have not had cache ready, so this time I`ve grabed a chance for balls. Somebody from you guys had written on his dashboard : One great piece per year making a great collection" and I can`t agree more with that. I wanted to say very BIG THANKS to ERIC that he decided to part with this fantastic piece. You made my day my friend :) I owe you a more than bottle of beer ! Social/Sharing |

Congrats on acquiring your grail! Me too I loved that series very much, back then: Bisley art was just amazing, but the other artists as well (Glenn Fabry, Greg Staples, Dermot Power, just to name a few) did an incredible job on those beautifully painted pages!

Thank you for your comment Davide. I Absolutelly agree. I have one of Dermots covers of Slaine somewhere around as well, I love his art on SLaine at most after BIZ. He looks to me like really underrated artist at all.

I saw the original picture that inspired this piece when I was at Simons studio the other day when I collected my commission from him. You're a lucky man owning this great page.
