This is a great origin splash to the early Ultimate Spider-Man series. These early issues were a slow burn by Bendis and Bagley had less opportunity to put in showcase action scenes. Somehow, their approach to storytelling was a bigger hit than previous attempts by bigger names who were still doing The 90's style over substance. The hype audience was gone and the indie sensibilities were coming in to delight the faithful audience with something of ...substance. A bright and powerful sign that a new direction was here and the path to Marvel getting out of bankruptcy was set forth.

Oh, man, this really does take me back, as I'm sure it does you! And yes. The retelling of Spidey's origin was done so well in Ultimate. One of those times where you were glad the "it ain't broke so don't fix it" adage was disregarded! To this day I flip through the first volume trade often. Big congrats, Riz!

What a thrill it was, reading this for the first time. This scene felt like Ditko's Peter crushing the rooftop pipe and discovering his strength. A great milestone piece that any 2000s kid will remember their whole lives. Congrats!

Love this splash! Such a great piece of Ultimate Spider-Man history. And we never got a seismic moment like this with Earth-616 Peter Parker, did we. Anyway, great Spiderverse addition!!!
