DescriptionSooooo, the reason why I was asking about favorite John Romita Jr. covers, and non-Spider-Man, is because I was really lucky in getting this Daredevil #256 Cover by John Romita Jr. featuring the 3rd appearance of Typhoid Mary. Awesome inks by the legendary Al Williamson! This was an INCREDIBLE run by Ann Nocenti, John and Al! HUGE thanks to Spencer Beck who has diligently followed up wtth the owner for years for me, and finally able to place together!Social/Sharing |

Oh my gosh! That is it! One of the best JRJR covers. I remember seeing this when it came out and feeling like I had to buy that issue just because of the amazing cover. What a truly stunning example of comic art! Huge congrats to you on adding a classic piece to your collection!

Thank you so much Kent! I appreciate the kind words, and we're on the same page. As a DD lover, and a JR Jr lover, this is twice as sweet!

Screen tones were often overused in this period, but on this cover they work perfectly for the underwater scene. Perfect execution in the layout and details on this cover by JRJR. Epic.

HUGE score! Congratulations! (And you're right: Nocenti, JrJr, and Williamson made a great team.)

Supreme grittyness & incredible cover. I love how he drew/used the level of water here, it really creates two levels within the illustration with the bubbles stream cleverly bridging the two.

Such a great run, often underrated - possibly due to an unfair comparison to Miller's run. The combination of Nocenti's thought provoking themes, Romita Jr's blossoming style and Williamson's amazing inks make this run a total classic. Great cover!

Agreed, it followed Miller and then Miller/Mazzachelli. It's one of the best runs EVER in my opinion!

Wow. This is one of the best covers from the JR Jr and Williamson run on DD. Also a perfect example of a cover that drew you into the story. I saw this book on the newstand and had to know what happened to Daredevil! The compostion by Romita Jr and the inks from Williamson are just perfect here. If you have just ONE piece from this classic run, it has to be this one. Congrats on owning this beauty.

I know what you mean about this bringing you in. When this story hit, I went back and bought doubles of #252 to #256 and then decided to go back to #250 just because it was an anniversary issue. One of my all time favorite runs. Thanks on the congrats. I am soooooo happy to have this.

What a cover scene. Perfectly composed and rendered.
Love all the little touches on this one. The ripple of the water, the lack of zip on the bubbles to make them gleam, the way her hair conceals her eyes but frames her giddy smile. They completely nailed it.
Not only did this cover make me pick up the issue from the racks at the time, but it's gonna make me dig it up and re-read it right now...

This run was so fantastic, I've read this a few times. At least once every 2 or 3 years. It's just one of the best, though under appreciated, runs of the series. It's just fantastic! Story by Ann Nocenti and the way Al Williamson inked John Jr was just excellent and perfect!
