DescriptionBeautiful early Mickey Mouse Daily by the Mouse Master, Floyd Gottfredson. This comes from the 33rd Mickey Mouse storyline (YM 033) “In Search of Jungle Treasure” and features Mickey, Minnie & Goofy as their guide Abdomah introduces them to their Safari. The depictions of the natives are extremely racist by today’s standards, but I still loved the story as a kid. The fact that my dad was born in Zanzibar/Tansania (and speaks fluent Kiswahili, the language of the natives in this daily, to this day) make this even more special…a big ‘Thank You’ to G. for allowing me to become its new caretaker…The daily has had some restoration, among other things a lost text overlay was replaced in the 2nd panel: "The safari wishes to know if you and the memsahib like Africa!". On the original reproduced in the Galerie Laqua catalog, the initial underlying text is shown (please see additional pictures): “The safari wishees to go, if you and the memsahib like em? Ah!" First published May 13th 1937… I’m always looking for more Gottfredson / Mickey Mouse daily art from the 1930’s through the 1950’s, so if you have any you’d like to sell (or just to chat about - it’s always great to talk art), please don’t hesitate to contact me… Social/Sharing |

Incredible early piece that gave a travelogue feel of the safari in this strip.

Nice looking daily with great images of Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. The portrayal of the natives is something of a challenge with today's lens and something I struggle with a lot of the art I own from this era too.

Fantastic MM daily, the first panel alone is worth the price of admission!

gorgeous strip by Gottfredson... a mirror of the very different sensibility of that period, compared to today's, but it's somewhat part of its beauty, we can't (and shouldn't) erase the past, but learn from it
