DescriptionWHEW. This one is special. Gab is one of my absolute favorite artists. A true maestro with the brush. This is the cover to issue #2 of Nova from Marvel's cosmic Annihilation event back in 2006, and possibly my favorite cover from the entire series. Gab's cover work throughout the series was so captivating and cinematic, I was immediately pulled back into comics for the first time since I was a kid. I'd hoped to have the art in-hand to take to Lake Como, where I was going to finally meet Gab after so many years but I just couldn't make the shipping time work, and was unable to get to Paris to pick up in person before the show. Honestly, the thought of carrying this around Europe gave me an ulcer anyway. I did speak with Gab at the show, where I told him how much his work meant and thanked him for doing a Thanos commission for me years ago. He remembered the piece and where it was done, and was such a nice guy. I told him I'd just bought this cover and he genuinely said it was one of his favorites and he looks back very fondly on this run. He mentioned Marvel originally asked him to do just the main title run but then kept coming back "can you do these 5? Then again, can you do 5 more?" until eventually painting like 24 covers. Wild. This is the biggest art buy I've ever made, likely ever will make. I've never outright bought a cover, those I have were all commissions turned covers. I'd been in contact with the owner for over a year. When I first reached out in 2021 it was just too much for me to justify. Still is, however, I couldn't get the cover off my mind...like, ever. I decided I have more than enough pieces that won't ever be framed so I decided to sell several to help in covering the cost. So I reached back out a year later and we worked out a deal. The price went up, but fortunately it the € to $ conversion got a little more friendly in that span so it wasn't as wide a jump as it could have been. The opportunity to own such a personally meaningful white whale eventually got me. Thanks Greg! Social/Sharing |

Holy shit. One of the best covers from my favorite miniseries - featuring two of my favorite characters, by one of my favorite artists!
