Description

I first saw JAW (Jessica) Cooper's art in a couple of books at SDCC '19 (sob...two years ago....) but had never seen an original until I unwrapped the package with this piece in - she had an exhibition at Nucleus Gallery in southern CA last month and fortunately, the pieces were available to online attendees as well. (There are a few of her pieces on CAF in Nicki France's galley - https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=217617)

Much of her work is a little haunting, the nearest art I can think of to this is James Jean's although JAW's often has a touch of the grotesque....this particular piece felt just right and I was able to nab it... it is done on three layers of mylar within a hand crafted background and frame.

The 3 layers add to that haunting effect. Really nice linework that is controlled where it needs to be.

Very beautiful! I picked up a piece as well. Totally see your thoughts on her having a touch of the grotesque.

I picked up 'Summoning'. The version with her art embellishments over the print. Truthfully didn't fully know what I was getting as. But definitely learned more about her methods through this. Love the end result. Will definitely be looking for more opportunities in the future.

Love the layers and linework on this. I hadn't heard of the artist before, but I can see the similarity to James Jean's work.
