Hi Tyler, James often preferred to do his pencil work on either Arches watercolor paper or, more frequently, on Rives BFK printmaking paper. James went to SVA (School of Visual Arts) in NYC, which resulted in exposure to these types of materials, as well as developing more "fine art" sensibilities, and I believe he just preferred the "tooth" of this type of paper. He had no intention of painting this piece...this was just one of his papers of choice.
