Description

My first experience with Love and Rockets was through the trade paperback reprints. So this page was my first contact with the Palomar stories of Gilbert Hernandez - the most important stories of the early Love and Rockets magazine.

It's the first page of the early TPB reprint as well as the extensive 2003 Palomar: The Heartbreak Soup Stories HC collection; and therefore instantly recognizable to me at least. This one was purchased through a very old acquaintance of mine (an editor as well as fine art and comics critic) which makes it even more memorable. So thanks both to him and the original owner of this piece.

"Gilbert Hernandez "Chelo's Burden" page 1 original art (1986). In 1986, the second Love & Rockets volume, Chelo's Burden, was published. Gilbert Hernandez drew a short 6-page introduction also titled "Chelo's Burden," introducing most of the characters that would appear in the rest of the book, centered around the midwife and ba�adora Chelo. This is the first page of that story."
