I personally think this is the best of the DWJ commissions from Charlotte.   DWJ really shows off his magic & chops, not only illustrating MK beautifully, but my goodness the moon and stars are just as amazing.  MAJOR congrats on landing this bad boy, Stevie!

Gorgeous pick up, Steve!  It's actually the moon that defines it for me here, informing the mood and inflection of the piece.  No smiling, benevolent "man in the..." here; not a compositionally clever, Art Deco stylized representation of Earth's satellite; this is a cracked and scarred specter heralding the arrival of its avatar with a cold and pitiless eye.  A bad moon's not rising, it has risen, and vengeance falls from it like some kind of celestial, karmic afterbirth.

Fearless in vision and execution, DWJ is not afraid to wipe out some of his linework with heavier brush, brush ink, and screen tone to get the presentation he's truly after.
