DescriptionI think it’s fair to say that David Wright’s Carol Day is one of the great discoveries in strip and illustration art of the last decade, and collectors are snapping them up as Wright’s talent has become so obvious. Some people love the strip for the creative pacing or the portrayals of Carol Day. Me? I’m a freak for pen and ink work that displays the depths of light and shadow, and David Wright was a master of this ability. In my mind, Wright did some of his best work when portraying night scenes, when he could show the interplay of light and darkness. These strips prove the point. Check out the incredible linework here, and how Wright uses creative line lengths, shapes, and densities to express light, shadows, and movement on the page. Truly remarkable. I’m addicted. As shown in the additional photos, the strips immediately preceding these three (1023-1026), were published as part of a full spread review of David Wright’s work in Illustrators magazine (issue #2 published in 2012). This series was selected as some of the best in the strip’s history. I agree!!Social/Sharing |

A sequence like this really shows how great and artist is, much more so than a solo daily! Great addition!

The only way this amazing sequence could have been better is if the two panels with the old men talking had taken place around a campfire. Very nice Ben, thanks for sharing!

The chiaroscuro on the car in the final tier is particularly good - well done picking this up!

Most Carol Day collectors somewhat understandably stay focused on the earlier strips from the first few years, but there are still so many aesthetically fabulous examples throughout the middle and later part of the strip's run which are woefully underappreciated, and undervalued, such as these 3 right here. Congratulations on getting this beautiful sequence, Ben!

Wright's been worshipped in smaller chapels for some time. Glad he's finally getting his due at the Big Altar. These strips are evidence of all you say about his brilliance and genius. Congratulations on three fine samples!
