DescriptionWas lucky enough to get onto Daniel's list at C2E2. Empire Strikes back holds a special place for me - it's the firs movie I remember seeing in a theater. My uncle took me when I was 6 or so - probably a re-release before Return of the Jedi came out as I was too young when it first came out.But this scene on Hoth at the beginning - giant metal dinosaurs shooting lasers at space ships? Dude, I was so in, and it led to a life long love of science fiction, Star Wars, and comics. Thanks Uncle John! Oh yeah, thanks Daniel for perfectly capturing the movie, in his unique, frenetic and quite awesome style. BTW, read "Do a Power Bomb" if you haven't - it's a fantastic story and man, he sticks the landing. Oh - and I forgot - I was standing there waiting for DWJ to finish tweaking it - Jason Howard showed up and we had a great conversation about comics. I really missed conventions. Social/Sharing |

Amazing commission! What size is it?
It's one of the 6x9 commission specials. I was super lucky to be able to get one, he normally only takes a few.

Gadzooks, Michael! Even in the face of the "typical" level of creativity and energy DWJ imbues his commissions with, this is astonishing! The great M L always advises to "go with Star Wars, Artist's Choice" if you are lucky enough to make it on DWJ's list, and the reasons why are plain to see here. This thing pops and fizzes, Michael! The thick black inks of the exploding snowspeeder, the different grades of zipatone (to add some Warren Johnson dissonance to the image), the look of panic on the face of the pilot in the foreground... all fantastic... but for me, the cherry on the Hoth icing is the hand-drawn sound effects, scribbled over by white pen in the upper right corner to slightly obscure them behind the AT-AT's blaster fire. SO GOOD! With DWJ's commissions, it's never -just- about the image; it's about the -story- behind the image, which adds another "bonus" layer. Epic piece, Michael! Congrats!
