DescriptionWhen I was first contacted about this piece being available I couldn't believe what I was hearing and that I was actually being offered not just the splash but the whole book to the first issue of ROM. I didn't have enough to buy the whole thing but I told myself I would buy as much of it as I could. The splash being my number one pick out of all of them. The title splash to the first issue of ROM was a grail piece to me that I always dreamed of owning but never thought would actually happen, I thought that it was long gone in some private collection after being sold decades ago. So when I actually got the chance to own it I knew I needed to do whatever it took to get it or I would be regretting it for years to come. I sold almost all of my other art pieces, including ones I thought I would never let go to finance the purchase but it was all worth it when months later I was finally able to get it in hand. It also came with Sal's copy of ROM #1 which was pretty cool. Being a ROM collector I had not just gotten what is arguably the most recognizable image of ROM, I had also finally achieved every collector's dream of acquiring their personal grail. The artwork itself is actually 3 different pages. The original art which was drawn by Sal that you see here, with another page he did being nothing but the three panels that depict ROM crashing to Earth in the published image. Both those pieces had their images taken and were turned into stats which were used to make a stat only third page which was used as the published image. Social/Sharing |

Sincere congrats, David! Your excitement is clear in your description and it’s not hard to see why! Stellar title splash and from the first issue?! Sweeeet. Not the easiest thing to pick up your personal grail - enjoy!

This is fantastic. I just did a "I wonder who owns this" search on CAF, and behold! I wasn't familiar with how the printed page was assembled. Thanks for sharing that! This image is one of the most underrated in the storied history of comics. Congrats on an amazing get.
