DescriptionIn June of 2007 I was reading a copy of The Spirit #7 from DC Comics. Jimmy Palmiotti had a great short story in there where the Spirit was chasing a criminal through an apartment building. In a very Eisner-esque fashion we got a look at the various residents of the building and their lives (including a lovely young woman sunbathing on the roof). It was just one of those stories that stick with you, and it was drawn beautifully by an artist I had never heard of before -- Jordi Bernet.Of course Jordi had had a long and storied career in comics before this, though he is much better known in Europe. I did my best to collect everything I could find of his -- Jonah Hex issues, old Catalan Communications tpb's, and whatever foreign editions I could find on eBay or Amazon. It all culminated in 2009 when I was able to secure a commission from the man himself. Now, it is no coincidence that I have been a member of CAF since 2009. I joined the site specifically so that I could reach out to Miguel Angel Dominguez about a Jordi Bernet commission. The entire process was great. (And super fast! If you've ever gotten a commission from Jordi you know he takes them very seriously.) Not long after that I came up with the idea for this commission -- a police lineup of all of Jordi's creations with Jordi himself in the foreground, having been brought in by the police to take responsibility for the mayhem they have caused. Jordi has drawn himself in his work many times, so this seemed to be a nice homage to so much of what he has created with his pen. It kicked around in my head for years and years, and all I kept saying was "one day, one day." Until this year, when I finally pulled the trigger. We went back and forth a lot about who should be included -- DC or no DC characters, nothing to visually similar like Snake and Tex, etc. It changed, it grew... and then I had it in my hands. So here they are-- *Lieutenant Dante from "Kraken" *Sarvan from "Sarvan" *The vampire from "The Cry of the Vampire" *Custer from "Custer" *Luca Torelli and Rascal from "Torpedo 1936" *The knife killer from "Dark Tales" *Clara from "Clara by Night" *Cicca from "Bang Bang" *Snake from "Snake" *Light and Bold from "Light and Bold" Social/Sharing |

Great idea for a comission and nice to see the master can still produce great art. This piece would be perfect for a future cover of Bernet´s artbook or something like that.
