This painting is from a true attic find and purchased recently at auction, it is entitled "Hostile Planet" by Nicholas Solovioff. Not from a specific story, this was one of the magazine's themed covers. It appeared on the cover of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction - March 1955.
