DescriptionWell,This still feels absolutely surreal. Reached out to Albert to see if Jim would be interested in doing this - knowing I was walking a fine line asking him to do someone else’s cover - which was confirmed when he said that’s the first time someone’s ever asked him to do something like this. Jim’s art has been the biggest influence on my comic love and obssssion, and this cover was so Iconic to me that I vividly still remember paying for it with my allowance at my local comic store in Calgary. I hold so much love for Silvestri’s work on this run, and I was dying for any opportunity to have something pencilled or inked by Jim. It has been a grail search since I jumped into this hobby. Then he said yes. Then I got to meet him in Calgary. I did my best not to fan-girl but I was a mess - and he was the nicest man on earth and was so kind and generous, This piece is a masterpiece. I do not own anything that even compares and I’ve never witnessed anything better. The detail, effort and iconic Jim Lee masterstrokes still blow my mind, Thank you Jim. Youve simultaneously made me feel 10 again while stunning me with something gorgeously modern and definitively you. And thank you Albert and Devyn for helping this happen during an insane Expo! I remember first seeing this cover and feeling just how iconic it was as well. Oddly enough, I stiil need this ish from my Silvestri run. Wonderful commission; it's so great when you can catch a vet like Lee off guard with an idea like that. Thanks for sharing this instant classic of a classic & your fantastic backstory.

Thanks for that!
Lots happened and it’s actually really hard to describe what occurred on the weekend - the experience of picking up the piece and meeting Jim in person feels so much different than buying it as if were listed. Brings a tonne of weight to the whole thing!

Wow, huge congrats Ryan. It was perfect choice for Jim and he killed it. The scene, ambience and the mood of the cover captured brilliantly by Jim.

Same here! It really is such an incredible piece! I wonder why Jim didn't reference Silvestri in his tag like most artist do when they do a swipe.

Something that i talked with RS88 about as well. When Jim posted it to his social media pages, he noted in the description that it was "obviously" an homage to the great Marc Silvestri...maybe it was just one of those things that Jim thought went without saying...

That’s why I waited for Jim to post it too - he mentioned would bring it back to Marc and did pay tribute with incredible humility.
Jim is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, let alone the greatest comic artist ever - we are all very lucky to have him at the top of the mountain as fans of the art.

This wouldn't necessarily be my first thought to have Jim recreate. But seeing the results here, I will have to admit that it came out just amazing!!!! Congrats on a truly stellar commission!!!!

There is no doubt that this Silvestri cover from 80s was one of the best and most striking the decade produced . This is one of the best ideas and executions for a commission I’ve seen. Unreal piece! It’s a holy grail!

Wow, having trouble finding the words to express how amazing this is. Obviously the original cover is a historic classic, but Jim Lee brings it to another level here. Just ... wow.

Can't believe I've never commented on this, but I have to tell you this is the one of the best recreations I've ever seen. This Jim Lee guy, does he still work in the business?
