DescriptionMachine Man 1984 marked the return of the great Barry Windsor-Smith to comic books, thanks to an invitation from his friend Herb Trimpe. In fact, it was likely one of the greatest comeback stories in comics, as it also marked the return of Jack Kirby’s creation in a refreshed form.When I saw this page, it perfectly encapsulated everything that comes to mind when I think about this series: Return, Refresh, and Rebirth of the entity known as Machine Man. Rediscovered by the crew that finds him in the junkyard, this page was the perfect showcase of his reactivation! This series wasn’t one I read growing up, but as an adult, I’ve read it several times and am blown away each time by the level of detail and the foresight of the future. From VR arcades to flying bikes to "Vidiots" describing those addicted to screens (sound familiar?), this series feels eerily prescient. Thanks to Anaud for letting me have this one! Social/Sharing |
