Description

I was introduced to this artist by a wonderful book by Auad Publishing. At first, I dismissed it -as most of the drawings looked too scratchy, but on closer inspection I fell in love with some of the most expressive illustrations I have ever seen.

Henry Patrick Raleigh was a prolific illustrator during the roaring 20s and often drew scenes of high society. Most of these were done in pencil and ink and if you see these up close - they have a bold and unfinished feel to them. For my part - I love the poses, expressions and gestures. Unlike many more finished paintings by other artists - Raleigh's work has a liveliness of line and attitudes. The other thing I really find impressive on these is the artist's ability to create lavish scenes crammed with unique characters.

I've always loved Raleigh's work. Just oozes Roaring 20s attitude.

Just beautiful. The casual poses, the light touch of color in just the right places, really a mster at work!
