DescriptionFunny story on this one.. first. I love this SPLASH.. as a stand alone piece not only do I think it is one of the best published archangel images out there but having grown up right outside of New York City and seeing the NY skyline my whole life, the depiction of a fairly accurate pre 911 NYC skyline really hits home . Then the imagery of the title, guardian, and Angel overlooking the city like a guardian Angel should just adds to the perfectness of the piece to me.Now the funny story.. I remember this issue pretty vividly from when it came out , especially for a fill in issue. It was archangel centric which was fairly rare back then, and Dwyer who both Wrote and penciled the issue really did a good job of capturing the inner struggle Warren was going through with his Angel/archangel change: one of the best mutant upgrades of all times. Taking a bland Angel and adding so much power and turmoil. I always wanted a page from this book and honestly this title splash was it.. even more then the cover! So I happened to see this image in a preview for a live claim sale on one of the Facebook pages. So I made sure to tune in and got my claim button all ready. And when it popped on screen I clicked as fast as I could . But I lost.. I wasn’t done yet.. I happened to know the person who won and immediately messaged him to see if I could up the price a bit and buy it … he politely declined but told me if he ever sold he would think of me. So I settled for another page from the book.. and was content enough at that point. But things sometimes happen quickly in the OA world and a month or so later my friend let me know he was after a bigger fish.. and fortunately he gave me a number I could live with to get my archangel page! Thank you Tony! Second chance art is the sweetest art! Lol Social/Sharing |

Wow!! Perseverance pays off in a big way here because this is spectacular! I've always been a big Dwyer fan and he absolutely does the Simonson designed Archangel Justice in this splash page and the wings beautifully offset all of the texture and detail in the background. Big congrats man!

Damn, nice work. It pays to be vigilant. While I wasn’t quick enough either, it was a fun art drop at reasonable prices for art that's 30 plus years old. Amazing title page splash by Dwyer. Congrats.

Pretty neat with the white outline all around Archangel to make him bolder over the city and the background. The city is probably photo referenced to achieve such a dramatic feel of flight.

Archangel was one of my favorite characters around this time. And I agree that this is one of the best splashes out there. Congrats on your second chance!

Through a roundabout way it got home! Yup, killer Archangel image, winds spread. That skyline's a nice bonus for you. And couldn't agree more regarding the upgrade, including that KILLER costume. X-Factor 24 is one of my favorite comics due to that change. Congrats!
