DescriptionWell… sometimes you just get lucky! I was able to get Paul Smith to do a commission for me .. and WOW . Before I get to the art.. let me just say one more time. Because Paul Smith drew the first X-men comic I ever saw as a boy… his versions of these characters are number one in my brain. Saying he is one of my favorite artists is an understatement. Just being able to interact with him a bit via email was very cool.. but adding this piece to my collection is mind blowing. I asked for a recreation of the cover to Uncanny X-men 173 , a massively memorable cover from his too short run on the title. And honestly I thought I’d get a piece very faithful to the original. But 40 years late Smittys style has changed quite a bit and he took it upon himself to re do the cover from the ground up staying true to the layout and poses but drawing the two character in his current style hence calling it more of a reimaging then A recreation. So happy to have this piece! How do we get marvel to see it and run a variant???lol Ps - when I posted it on Facebook a very talented colorist did some digital colors and masthead as if it was colored .. so thank you Francisco Vilela ! The image is in additional images Update! This is now published.. it was used as a corner box for a reimagined Uncanny 279 in Tripwire Magazine spring of 2025 issue Social/Sharing |

Clear an entire wall for this piece! Nothing will look as good anymore when placed next to this.

Fantastic piece bub. Remember the original issue well with the epic ninja stars in the hallway contra level 2 style, and the epic silver samurai battle

Fantastic reimagining by Paul Smith of one of his greatest covers, Uncanny X-Men #173. I love this new version--Wolverine is sleeker than ever, his claws thicker and his teeth gritted even tighter. Rogue looks younger, if that's possible, and more determined than before. I wouldn't say which version I like better, they're both excellent! Great pick-up, congrats!
