Description

The Committee on Public Information was created in April 1917, only a week after the United States entered WWI. George Creel was the head of the Committee, and he approached Charles Dana Gibson, at that time President of the Society of Illustrators, to help gather together artists and illustrators to aid the government agencies with their publicity campaigns. The Committee�s Division of Pictorial Publicity was born in November of 1917, led by Gibson, Chairman, and F.D. Casey, who was the Vice-Chairman and Secretary. Casey also served as an art editor at Collier's

This cartoon by Zim was done for the Division of Pictorial Publicity in 1918, and features a woman patching a pair of pants in order to save money to purchase war saving stamps for the war effort. You can also see a bit of additional propaganda with the picture hung on the wall. A wonderful piece of WWI propaganda by the great Zim.
