DescriptionI know what this is supposed to represent but not what it actually is!It's the iconic scene from the 1986 'Transformers The Movie' Motion picture right before the even more iconic Optimus Prime scene in the 'Battle for Autobot City'. It's differently drawn than the actual animation cel/art and looks like some kind of pre-production study. But as far as I know it could also be someone's attempt to recreate this scene. I bought the four pages a couple of years ago from an online (US) thrift store with no additional information. They all have an approximately A4 paper size. The two in black and white are pencil/ink drawings and the background version looks like it's done in (watercolor?) paint. The fully colored version is a print on thicker photocopy paper and not a drawing. The reason that I think this is some kind of study is the pose of Hound. Two of the pictures show him in a pose with his legs in a standing pose, while the second drawing has him in his walking pose as seen in the movie. The fact that this set includes a render of him in that first pose and not the final pose makes me think this is some kind of rejected version. I don't know if this really has something to do with the development of the movie but all the pages don't look like they were made yesterday. Any more information or opinions on this post would be welcome. Social/Sharing |

I could be mistaken, but my gut says to reach out to Dan Khanna and see if this was something he was asked to commission.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I could do that but I think Dan's style is more modern. And he mostly draws on better quality paper.
