DescriptionThe tail end of a space battle that doesn’t -quite- go the way of our heroes… but which does present an opportunity for a Jim Cheung Iron Man to take center stage (popped out to the forefront thanks to the wide laser blast streaking behind him, bisecting the panel and making it feel like the Golden Avenger spans both at once)! So basically a win. :)The Illuminati end up captured and studied by Skrulls, which ultimately helps the green meanies put their Secret Invasion into motion… (oops!) With each book of the 5-issue mini-series being a self-contained story, space was at a real premium and this fun stack of 8 panels keeps the action chugging along nicely, with superb action-storytelling and plenty of eye candy to gawk at along the way. Explosions, armor, force bubbles, wizards, laser blasts, monarchs, repulsor flare, mystical shields, bald guys… An entire laundry list of Cheung/Morales goodness on display, thanks to Mark's brilliant inks and the beautiful colors on the published page by Justin Ponsor. Thank you VERY much, Vincent - an absolute pleasure! Social/Sharing |

Here it is in all is b&w glory. You know how much I love that mini. That second panel is the money shot but I may actually prefer the storytelling displayed in the last 3 in which everyone is losing consciousness.
(because, in space, nobody can hear you scream, right Black Bolt? ^^)

Bendis was firing on all cylinders at the time this series was released - exciting stuff that was consistently at the top of my pile of books to read. He was no doubt helped in huge part by the fantastic artists who brought his stories to life, with Cheung doing killer work here.

OMG! This series featured the ONE and ONLY CLASSIC Iron Man armor!?!? I would try reading it just for that reason alone! Iron Man used to be one of my favourite MArvel characters because of how cool the armor looked, but stopped caring ever since they began constantly changing the look of the armor to appear more and more sophisticated and complicated looking, which to me at least, made him look and feel like a robot rather than a guy in a costume. I don't recall seeing him wear this armor since the early 90's, so this is shocking to me. The fact that the page is delineated by the Cheung/Morales team just makes it all the better, especially with such beautiful clarity between the figures and bright lights cause by the explosions. A masterclass of comic book art! Oh, did Cheung sneak in The Flash in the 2nd panel, or am I just seeing things?

Jim Cheung's art is always so clean, and it stands out with that beautiful Iron Man suit! Glad to see more of his original pages on CAF! Thank you for sharing.

Jim, it seems, takes center stage
Drifting further, into space
Self contained within it self
Losing battles, to the Skrulls
I’ve seen all Morales’ skills
Simply nothing more to give
There is Illuminati
In the end they’re Skrulls to me

Dang, that is one awesome Jim Cheung page! Love that second panel. It's worth the price of admission all on its own. Congrats!

Man, every panel's got something to see as well as the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Great lighting work against that space backdrop, and SO cool seeing Cheung's detailed rendition of the classic Iron Man armor. And Morales...a dynamic duo him and Cheung do make! Congrats!
