Description

Now THIS is the kind of page 1 you want to see when you open up a book! And in typical Star Wars fashion, it only takes three panels before exploding into action.

This one has a bit of almost everything, too: Scoundrels, Princesses, Wookiees, “Star-chitecture”, a beautiful Corellian starship… heck, even a bounty hunter is present (if you count Dengar 😜). Each element contributes rock-solid testimony (as if more were needed) to Stuart and Wade’s amazing artistic muscle. As a certain beloved Sith Lord might opine: MOST impressive…

I’m over the moon that we get to see traces of Stuart’s uninked pencils, too, at the top and bottom of the page, as well as the fact that the layout even flows in a "V" (like 'Episode V', right? ;) ). Beautiful inks all over this thing by Wade von Grawbadger, and I love a cross-hatched Chewie rising up behind Dengar in panel three…

I have long wanted a cool example from this awesome labor-of-love run by Stuart and Wade, and I am SO grateful to Jason (at Essential Sequential) for the opportunity! Thank you again, sir!

INCREDIBLE stylized likeness of Han on this page. Great get, Jason!

Agreed on the immediately recognizable Han Solo (smirk) and yet entirely Immonen's.

The worm view of that ship ain't half bad either.

And who doesn't love a wookie throwing away an evil bounty hunter? ;)

(he makes it look effortless but you know it's just hard work).

Superb page, Jason.

Had no idea the Immonen-Graebadger dynamic duo was on Star Wars!  Refreshing to see a ship other than then Falcon (sorry gal) for a change.  Impressive sequence here with that Immonen shading wizardry...

Well, we all have a face
That we hide away like Dengar
Bandage, take them out and show ourselves
When Obi Wan has gone
Some from Jason, got a steal
Some will kill like bounty hunters
They're the pages Han and Leia
That we love from Immonen

Well, we all fall in love
Chewie dismembers the Dengar
Though we share so many secrets
There are Von Grawbadger tells
Why were you so surprised
That you rebel on the Empire?
Did you ever let Organa see
The Dengar in yourself?

Such a great page, but man, Han and Leia steal the show.  Ok, maybe Chewie does...

Von Grawbadger inked the Chewie figure right down to where he knew the border would be. There was no reason to ink it all, since he knew the work would be wasted after the printing trimmed off the rest. Just as you do, I LOVE that. Such a cool looking bit of "unveiling the process" behind the curtain. As much as Chewie was always my favourite and I do love the bottom panel, I think the 2nd panel is the centerpiece of this page, as the eye is drawn right to it and the likenesses were beautifully captured, especially Han Solo. Congrats on finally procuring yourself an example from this series and a really fine one at that!

But Chewie, he's holding a thermal detonator! This issue opener has all of the smugglers moon trimmings in the first panel. That Han close up screams like an intentional nod to Dan Parsons' work in the Dark Horse era, but maybe that's simply my take because I'm a Dan fan. And then neatly tied up with Chewie ready to toss aside a bounty hunter. A top notch Star Wars page if ever there was one. Congrats!

This page really delivers. It's rare to see an artist with the chops of Immonnen tackle subject matter and characters he really loves. Just look at the staging in the first panel and that amazing final Chewbacca/Dengar panel! I can't imagine better recent Star Wars pages than this one.

I agree with Ruben --- your eye is really drawn to that great second panel.  With that white space, it gives you a little pause/breather before the last two panels' action and greater detail.  And yeah, so cool to see those uninked pencils at the bottom.  A wonderful bonus!  Congrats on a total Star Wars winner!

What a page!  Han, Leia, Dengar and Chewie.  All beautifully rendered, on a very dynamic layout. This is a great addition to your collection, Jason!

To me, very cool how the middle panel mixes the likenesses of Ford and Fisher with a traditional cartoony comic book look.  I prefer the latter in most comic stuff vs more realistic, but I can really appreciate when the 2 get merged for perfect viewing pleasure.  Like here.  I just said on your other Immonen post that the guy can do everything.  And yeah....here we are again :)  Congrats!
