Description

At the 2019 Planet Comicon, I had the great fortune of having my table set up next to Tim Mayer and Bryan Timmins-- two fabulous and personable Kansas City artists. As I passed by Tim at one point in the show, I saw him in-progress drawing this piece. I immediately appreciated his fine inking on the vegetation, the excellent cartoony interpretation of Seymour, Audrey's expressive lips, and the excellent balance of fine detail, light, and dark. When I came back, I casually asked Tim if it was a commission. He told me that someone saw him drawing it and reserved it for when it was finished. I was heartbroken, because Little Shop of Horrors is one of my favorite movies; I was hoping to purchase it as a perfect encapsulation of a weekend spent with an artist I not only share interests with, but admire. As the show ended, I casually but dejectedly asked if the "reserver" purchased the piece. To my great surprise and elation, Tim told me that the person totally flaked out. . . after learning this, I closed the deal in less than 4 seconds. Thanks, Tim!
