Description"Your Young Men Shall Slay Visions!" The Vision and the Scarlet Witch have made their love for one another known to the general public! How will the outside world react to a mutant and a synthezoid involved in a relationship? Regrettably, not very well. After Wanda and the Vision are spotted kissing atop the Statue of Liberty, a bizarre group of domestic terrorists devises a plot to kill the Vision! What is the method for their madness? Suicide bombing. The terrorists' first bombing attempt doesn't slay the synthezoid avenger, but leaves him seriously wounded. Iron Man takes the Vision to Stark Industries' Long Island plant where Dr. Donald Blake, Tony Stark, and T'Challa work to repair their critically injured teammate! Leaving Captain America and the Scarlet Witch to stave off the terrorists' second bombing run! It's a desperate fight for survival for Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Cameo appearances by Mantis and the Swordsman. Avengers Lineup: Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Thor, and the Vision.Easily the most dynamic of the era! Social/Sharing |

Classic stuff, with the gang all here! Powerful central image here, and just love Wanda's face, in terms of elegance and pained expression. Buckler IMO is underrated compared to some of his contemporaries of the time and pieces like this show you why I put him way up there. Congrats!

When was the last time the Big Two published covers like this, using a scene from the story inside, on a regular basis? These types of covers are what made it so great to see the new comics come in every week. Pulse-pounding, dramatic scenes that are part of the story is where it's at! Kudos to Joe Sinnott for bringing his classic feathering style to this!

Oh wow, I just bought an interior page from this issue! The cover is truly magnificent!! It's the kind of cover image that gives you an incredibly exciting scene from the story inside, making you want to open the comic as fast as possible to read how (and which) events could POSSIBLY have led to this boiling point! Bravo, and Happy New Year!!!

Treated with lines
Sinnott inks please
Carried me through revelations
For the one that was kissing with me
It took a bomb
Still I believed
Somehow Rich Buckler I needed
Would find Statue of Liberty
I had the Vision I loved
And it was all that they’ve taken from me
Avengers’ Might
Felt so alone
Suffered from X-Gene mutation
I’ll make them pay on my own
Cover is strong
So I believed
And now I know I've succeeded
In finding this art West received
I had the Vision I loved
Terror was all done domestically
I had a vision of love
And it was all they’ve taken from me

Outstanding Avengers cover by Rich Buckler and Joe Sinnott! I love this scene of the Scarlet Witch screaming to the world that she's going to avenge the death of the man she loved--The Vision! What an iconic cover! I love this era of comics, where the cover depicts the most intense moment from the story inside. It made going to the store and picking out the comic you wanted to read a treat. Exciting covers like this one were part of the reason I got hooked on comics as a kid. Today, most covers are just pin-ups of the lead character with no hint as to why this month's issue is any different from last month's. It's kinda disappointing, IMHO.
