DescriptionHere we go!!!!Action Comics #452 by Bob Oksner from 1975. With this cover I got my grail of a Superman cover. Everyone needs at least one piece of art with the first big Super-Hero ever. Well, I think I got mine. I like Superman standing strong, big shoulders and arms, typical haircut and chin, bully neck, never skipped leg-day, ready punching that guy’s head off. Action Comics #452 "The Loser.. and New Champion!" is about… Superman faces a crook who has been genetically altered to gain the power of anyone who fights him. Green Arrow frees himself and his friends from their bonds and leads Davy and Black Canary in an assault on the Organization; But, once again, they find themselves outnumbered and make an escape... without Davy, who stays behind and blows up the Organization with a detonator from one of the nuclear bombs. I believe the Jim Croce song lyrics go "You don't tug on Superman's cape," but I wouldn't grab him by the front of his suit either. But regardless... Great cover!!!

I loved the covers of that time, it's so "vintage" , in a good way.

Fantastic Superman large image! The Oksner art shows his smooth inks control that has served him well on many dramatic covers. They didn't do too many backgrounds with the big giant logo as it was designed for the newsstands and spinner racks. It always added that extra charm to this era of Action Comics.

So cool to suddenly see more vintage art in your collection, Vik. I love this piece and the dram involved in the scene. It's beautifully drawn as well and it's wonderful to see just how much of the illustrative approach that Neal Adams brought into the comic book field is apparent in Oksner's work on this piece!

My third issue of Action Comics purchased off the newstand and a very very cool cover especially to me. Congrats on owning this treasure and thanks for sharing it.

Awesome cover! Are the people cheering in the crowd because they want Superman to hit a seemlingly normal person, or are they aware that the guy is a crook and they want him to gain Superman's powers? Either way, that's not a nice crowd.

Incredible Superman cover! Bob Oskner did a fabulous job here, Superman has that cool "Protector of the Universe" stance. Great pick-up!

A very memorable cover from the stack of books my dad gave me. Still have the copy! Nice to see the black and white line art.
