Spider-Man and Batman fight to save the Earth from the Star Warriors! When my friend, Johnny Vera, commissioned this piece, he requested I illustrate Batman and Spider-Man on a boxing poster. With any project, I try to bring a little extra to the table, so I added my two cents and said we should pay tribute to the iconic Superman vs. Muhammad Ali comic from 1978. He agreed and I was off and running! Now, what made that comic so iconic, aside from the unusual pairing of Superman and a super popular Muhammad Ali, was the realistic art by Neal Adams. In my opinion, besides artist Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, no one else was doing that level of comic book realism in the 1960s and 70s. Adams and Garcia-Lopez often did the covers for Superman and Action comics. I was always disappointed when the interior art was not as good as the cover art, which grabbed your attention and made you pluck it off the newsstand. In addition to Superman covers, Adams was, and to many still is, considered THE Batman artist. However for me, I discovered his work when I was in high school on a series called Deadman. He didn�t create Deadman, but his interpretation of the character made a lasting impression on me during an impressionable age. For me, Neal Adams, will always be THE Deadman artist. Years later, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez would also do some outstanding work on Deadman, so those two artists remained forever linked in my mind to each other and that particular character. Neal Adams passed away in 2022, a few weeks before my favorite artist, George Perez. If you look closely, I drew Neal Adams in the front row to the right of the piece. I am by no means in the same artistic league as either of them. But, I think Adams would have liked to sit ringside at this event!

About the art: This piece is 11�x17�, pen, ink, white out, and paper. It is entirely hand illustrated. No paste up or computer graphics. I did, however, use a light table for parts of it.
