DescriptionThis cover blew me away when I saw it on the stands. For me, Jim is truly a star in comics. This cover and Uncanny X-Men #268 are my absolute favorite covers by Jim and Scott. You knew you were witnessing something special during this time. Also, I think this is the first cover where I took note of the inker, Scott Williams. Scott needs no introduction here, but there is no denying that he's one half of a dynamic partnership!!!! Tremendous thanks and gratitude to Jim for letting this go a couple of years ago. J Lee's style has been imitated so much in the last decades that one tends to forget the impact his early work had when it came out. It was classic and yet it had a level of energy never seen before. Also, it was amazing to see how fast he was developing as an artist from the early Alpha Flight issues to Uncanny. This cover is possibly the first "fully mature" Lee cover (certainly also the effect of Williams' inks), and undoubtedly remains one of his very best. Museum quality.

Occasionally I see pieces on here and think "surely it's not possible for anyone to actually own THAT?!" This is one of those. Almost unbelievably good.

I couldn't agree more Joe, their run on Uncanny really felt like something special at the time and I think it holds up really strong 2 decades later. I think there is a kinetic energy to Lee/Williams artwork, a white hot intensity especially during these early issues that makes them stand out above the crowd. This cover is a prime example of that and looks absolutely stunning in black and white. The inks appear to be much more polished than many of their Uncanny covers. There is so much fine line work here I wonder if on later covers Jim and Scott had to make adjustments for the printing technologies of the day. I don't know where their Uncanny run ranks all time but you're right, back then it was hard not to see that these guys were doing something special. Thanks for sharing this with us so we can see all the nuances lost on the printed page and enjoy the artwork in it's original form

This is really impressive Joe! I think the poses used on the cover are tricky to pull off "realistically," but Jim and Scott did a great job of making it all look natural and sensational at the same time. Big congrats!

When you posted the Wolverine 27 cover, I immediately thought of this one, always a favorite of mine. I didn't have to go far to find it. ;o) Again, big congrats (on both counts)!

I’m finally summoning the courage to celebrate this - this is one of the most iconic Jim pieces ever...if not the most. If it isn’t you have the other one. Yup both. You are the master!

One of my favorite covers; I have multiple copies of this issue just to get the right color, and overall appearance of this front cover. For me, this is Jim's golden age in comics, and illustration. JIm's hard work in UNX #'s 256 - 272 were a landmark in modern artwork. You have a keen eye for quality; it's nice to know I can got to one place to view these treasures.
