Description"The Killer Who Wiped Central City Clean!" by Cary Bates.I've been wanting a Carmine Infantino Flash page for some time. This one caught my eye because it has Flash in speed force action in all panels. The page features split second images of the Flash racing by, saving a thick-headed police captain who thinks he's a super hero-"Captain Invincible," and lifting a speeding car of bank robbers. The story's main villain, however, is the Eradicator, a Senator with a secret vigilante alter ego who can vaporize people, leaving only their clothes. He goes ballistic during a TV interview and kidnaps his girlfriend, with whom Barry Allen is in love. I also like the historical point of reference to the MX missile in the first panel - "But approaching from the north at the velocity of an MX missile..." MX was the acronym for missile experimental, but it was also called the Peacekeeper missile, which leads to cynical comparisons with Dr. Strangelove. The missile's first-strike capability raised concerns that it contributed to US-Soviet tensions and the potential for nuclear war and a nuclear winter. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, only 50 MX missiles were deployed from 1986 to 1988 at Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. Between 2002 and 2005 the missiles were deactivated under the terms of the Strategic Arms Reduction Talks between the United States and Russia, and their modern warheads were fitted onto Minuteman IIIs. By the 80's, this style showing blurry figures in movement through scribbly lines may have been outdated, but Flash fans still swore by it when it was done by the legendary Carmine Infantino. It took them back to the late 50's when Flash broke through to usher in the Silver Age.
