DescriptionJose is so good as what he does, that DC editorial gave him the responsibility to create hundreds of character figure pages, which were gathered together and collected into a 3-ring binder and regularly handed out to artists, to show them what the characters should be modeled after. This page is right up there at the top, since it not only indicates Jose's incredible anatomy skills, but also his sense of motion and storytelling. It's a real beauty, Fred! Man o man, I remeber back in the 90's when the hobby was still in its infancy, it was so small relative to today, that NOBODY cared about anything that wasn't published covers and story art. Style guides and any other "specialty art" was plentiful and cheap. This stuff could be had for prices in the very low 3 figure range. Mind you, most collectors didn't even care about Garcia-Lopez art in general back then. My, how times have changed!

Unofrtunately, the style guide pages, along with a great deal of publiushed work, never made their way back to Jose's hands. That is a tale for another time. That said, the writing on the back of this piece, suggests that it originally sold for $65. *gulp*

Ideal and definitive pieces created to be used for all manner of commercial uses. Garcia-Lopez set the benchmark with these guides that served as the Bible for years to come.

While no one can knock JLGL sequentials or covers, this stuff is where he is best IMO. How many of us had t-shirts or action figures or underoos with his art on them when we were kids? It's immeasurable how much his art has used.

Mr Garcia-Lopez's takes on Batman and Robin (and, yeah, pretty much the entirety of the DCU in that awesome styleguide) remain definitive to me for a VERY good reason!

You have the best JLGL collection that I am aware of and I don't usually find myself feeling jealous but this page is different. The best version of Batman is right here for my taste. Congrats Fred - thanks for sharing!

What a fantastic piece, Fred. Love that the man chosen to "define" the chacters was a rock sold artist.
