DescriptionLast year had some serendipitous timing as Dragon Con in its usual Labor Day slot was followed immediately by Baltimore Comic Con.I wasn't sure if I'd go to BCC, but it was nice to have the option. As Dragon Con got into full swing with me going over budget in Artists Alley, Ed Piskor began posting on Instagram that he'd be bringing portfolios of X-Men Grand Design interiors. The FOMO kicked in and after a couple more days in Atlanta, I drove all day to Baltimore to make sure I got a look at those portfolios. Just in case. Arriving at BCC, I poured over the XGD portfolios & walked away. Talked to some friends, went back to the portfolios, walked away again. Thought long & hard about how much I just spent at Dragon Con, went back to the portfolios, started thinking about which pages made sense and the price range I'd consider. By the 4th visit, it was decision time among 2-3 pages before landing on this great example. There were many great examples, but I couldn't get past this one featuring the legendary crucifixion of Wolverine, as he finally escapes, discovering Jubilee the only person nearby to help. We've all been there. Our budget already blown, but that jewel of a piece pops up that you've gotta grab while you can. What can I say? This was one of those moments. Just like this felt like the right moment to post the page after having it almost a year. Thanks so much to Ed & Jim for Cartoonist Kayfabe. Their show helped me get through the pandemic, introduced me to so much I wasn't aware of, helped reinvigorate my love of comics, and even inspired me to try learning how to draw. Rest in peace, Ed.
