Description“In the Merry Month of May” (Among Us Mortals, 5/2/1954)by W.E. (William Ely) Hill (1887-1962) 18.5 x 15 in., ink on board W.E. (William Ely) Hill (1887-1962) was known for his masterful black and white Sunday page, “Among Us Mortals,” sometimes referred to as the Hill Page. Please see the Gallery description for more about Hill. From this May 2, 1954 edition, titled “In the Merry Month of May” some quotes: “Young actor en route to join the May rehearsals of a Summer theatre group, off in the wilds somewhere. He’s letting his hair grow, because the opening play is to be ‘Stalag 17’.” “This is serious business. Junior is replanting the shrub that Ginger, the new puppy, dug up, before daddy gets home. No telling what pop might do about Ginger if he finds out.” There are a hundred versions of these that come to mind as absurdist, these May days in 2020, but then I recall that all you would need is the transcript of basically any production of the euphemistically named Fox “News” network and what passes for fact is somehow stranger than fiction… which makes no sense at all when you start with fiction in the first place.
