DescriptionGraham Nolan and Eduardo Barreto Detective Comics #669 Story Page 21 Original Art (DC, 1993). After Batman foils the Trigger Twins' plans, the GCPD eschews cop cars for police pontoons, arresting the twin villains' collaborators by surrounding their boat on this issue's penultimate story page. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Whiteout corrections, production notes/marks, a stat text correction in the final panel, production-punched holes in the margins, and some handling wear. Cool era of Knightquest! Nolan and Hanna brought the grounded crime fighter Batman to audiences in this title with more down to earth foes. I can already guess those faces in the middle are people from editorial!

Truly two master artists at the height of their powers. No capes in sight, yet Nolan+Barreto manage to create immersive scenes at the top and bottom of the page. Then in the middle panels, they creates expressive realistic faces to put the reader in the characters' place.
I love pages like this, and Nolan and Barreto (individually and together) made great look so easy.
