DescriptionMy journey to commissioning Kenny started thanks to a Vader vs Luke piece I saw here on CAF.Kenny’s work was new to me, but something about it grabbed my attention. Which was kind of strange, to be honest. His work swims in detail and I tend to gravitate to more minimalistic artists. But, as I looked around his social media, I saw someone who wasn’t afraid to pull back the camera and let the backgrounds take a starring role. That really appeals to me as I look to build out my Cap collection with scenes rather than pinups. Clearly he spared no effort on the insane amount of detail put into this piece. Yet his composition and smart choices for where and where not to put the duo tone shows he doesn’t let the detail get in the way of focusing our eye right where it should be. On the characters. ASK THE ARTIST: Why this scene? I’d told Kenny Winter Soldier was my favorite MCU film, so he wanted to work that character into his choice. Kenny says “I also love a challenge. As much as I hate backgrounds, I love machinery and setting the scene. I try to think of all my stuff as a moment out of a movie or animation. Where would I want to see it from and what would be an interesting shot. I try to make everything as cinematic as possible.” He could have fooled me about his dislike of backgrounds, because it’s a hallmark of his work in my humble opinion. Got to appreciate someone who still gives their all on the aspect of drawing they love least. When I asked him about that contradiction he told me “I was always told practice what you hate the most, that’s your weakness. Then it will be your strength.” If you’d like to set something up with Kenny, you can find him by his Instagram handle mister_millien. His communication was fantastic throughout and it was a very pleasant experience working with him. Social/Sharing |

The core of Captain America Civil War put down on paper in this killer shot! Highly imaginative set design creating lots of depth for the three to form a triangular spatial relationship to each other in this fight!

Good eye, Marcus. Kenny provided a couple layouts and there was another we discussed that I quite liked. But this was his favorite, specifically because of the triangle layout of the figures. I really like the metaphor it creates of Iron Man caught in the middle of Cap's friendship.

This is such a treat to look at - it's like DWJ and Darrow got together and had this baby, not to take away from Millien's obvious talent. Really just an impressive piece, congrats!

Yow! What a fabulous commission! Love the detail Millien put into the background! The massive machinery looks very believable! I love the figurework as will. Cap flinging his shield at Iron Man is so cool! The whole scene is mind-blowing!
