DescriptionSince starting Inky Knuckles Art, Cam Jarvis has assembled an impressive roster of artists with a wide range of styles. They’ve introduced me to a number of talents I was unfamiliar with and also signed up several artists I was already a fan of.One of those artists was Eduardo Vieira. His whimsical drawings and colors grabbed my attention from the moment I saw them, and his commission works were extremely impressive. Plus, Eduardo sketches out several rough layouts to choose from, which allowed me to play a larger part in the commission process. So, when the opportunity arose to get my own commission from him, I jumped at the chance. Admittedly, that was back in 2022. So, it was not a fast process. I received my layout options in mid-2023, and then it was another year before the piece was completed, and a few months more before I finally had it in hand. While I certainly wish it had been faster, the results were well worth the wait. For this project, Eduardo focused in on two potential scenes. One was a dynamic take on the moment the Winter Soldier punches Steve’s shield during their street fight in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was spectacular and I’d have loved to see Eduardo bring it to fruition. However, I ultimately chose this second layout for two reasons. The first is Declan Shalvey had already depicted that punch for me a few years ago. So, while Eduardo’s take on it certainly brought a different energy, I prefer to add new scenes to the collection if I can. But, ultimately, the deciding factor was Eduardo’s brilliant approach to depicting the iconic elevator fight scene. Incorporating the flag was an inspired choice, and I appreciate how Eduardo placed a clear focus on Steve by keeping the colors to a minimum. On top of that, the limited color palette also invites us to delve deeper as we discover the pile of unconscious bodies left in Cap’s wake. They’ve figuratively and literally been left seeing stars thanks to Eduardo’s superb design choices. While this moment never actually happens as depicted on the page here (after all, Steve escapes by jumping out of the elevator), I think of it as the perfect movie poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You always manage to snag inspired commissions. Another solid addition.
