I still remember this cover from when this book first hit the stands because it was such a striking image. A phenomenal piece!

This was one of the very few Wolverine issues I'd ever picked up (I'm mostly a DC guy) and this truly striking cover was the main reason ! You just can't ignore this image !

Such a cool cover by the Wolvie master. And I agree with you, this cover would make a lot more sense with Deadpool on the receiving end ;)
