Description

I've long been a fan of comic strip art - especially the photo-realistic stuff from the 50's and 60's (aided by the invention of the Polaroid). So the work of Bob Lubbers is a bit of a departure for me since his style is very "cartoony". But he's so good that I found myself getting some nice examples. I had some Robin Malone strips and some Long Sam strips but sold them. I recently picked this one up and it's the best Long Sam strip that I've owned - a really nice example. He sure drew pretty women!

The last panel is supposed to illuminate the man's face, but Lubbers turns it around as it illuminates Long Sam's smile and surprise.

Very nice Long Sam strip! Bob Lubbers was a talented artist who certainly knew how to draw attractive women. Long Sam was the creation of Al Capp, the creator of Li'l Abner. Long Sam was also a hillbilly strip, but centered around a girl instead of a guy. This is nice example of Lubbers' work on the strip.
