Description
Travis Charest was one of my favorites in the early days of Wildstorm, and his turn to hyper detailed line work and washes (like the X-Men/WildCATs Golden Age one shot) blew my mind and put him in the upper echelon of artists at the time. Highly influential to so many artists, he still sits at the top of the list even though he doesn't produce much sequential work anymore. It was great to finally meet him in person at the Lake Como Comic Art Show in 2025, and I was so excited when he reached out to let me know I was next on his commission list.

I feel so lucky to add this amazing Carrie Kelley depiction to my collection. The dynamism, detailed linework, and grey tones take me back to the work I fell in love with decades ago. The image was a little too large for my scanner, but you can check out the additional, lower res image for the whole canvas. Thanks, Travis!

13x19 pen, ink and Copic marker.

Hard to believe how sharp and clean Charest's lines are after all these years.  Many artists get looser as they get older, but the linework here is stunning.  What an image.  Gorgeous!

Reminds me of a Sienkiewicz piece where the pose becomes the star!  Technically great with Travis Charest using his finest detail for the various tones!  Inspirational with how Charest depicts the carefree persona of a young troublemaker!

The way the elastic on the slingshot ties everything together is just brilliant. Absolutely epic composition and execution. Congrats

Beautiful, modern rendition that harkens back to the likes of Rockwell. Congrats.

Not sure I've ever seen anything DKR-related from Travis before...glad that's been rectified! Congrats, Joe!

I don't believe I had seen his DKR rendition either. I really wanted a commission with both of them but he would only do the one character. I'm glad I went with Carrie as the subject!

Agree with the earlier comment about Rockwell vibes here with the grey tones; I'd be curious if that would still hold true if this had been done in color, but lovely commission either way.  Congrats!

Perfect pose, trademark Charest detail, and really dig the subtle grey tone work.  Win, win, win!  Congrats!
