DescriptionWith Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom in theaters, it's the perfect time to share some Aquaman art and kick off the New Year.Adventure Comics #451 is a Bronze Age classic cover penciled and inked by Jim Aparo with a large, full-figure Aquaman in battle vs. Starro the Conqueror, the JLA's first foe from Brave and the Bold #28...FSHOOM! Is that a phonetic mash of Fish and Zoom? Not many peak-period Aparo covers out there and IMO this is among the best of his 12 Aquaman covers for Adventure Comics. Social/Sharing |

I like the sharks in the background... "uh, I don't think we should get involved in this".

Really dig the overall composition, including how all of the lettering if incoporated! Aquaman's clearly got a tough tussle ahead o' him...Starro's no slouch- took on the whole JLA initially! Also a cover that definitely makes you wanna open up the book to see what's up inside! Congrats, Dino!

Aparo was as consistently great as any cover artist in the 70's, and this is a wonderful example of that. Congrats, and thanks for sharing this one Dino!

It is indeed primo Aparo for his 70's covers! It's also for one of his most desired characters in Aquaman! All the fine touches of stretchy anatomy and hero in peril facial expression are on this.

Aparo and Aquaman? Yes please!! Classic Bronze Age DC feel to this one. Another great addition, Dino.

Aparo's Aquaman was fantastic, especially the later part of his run in Adventure Comics.

Such a fantastic & dynamic cover! Cool to see Starro on another cover besides B&B 28. Love all those stats and text boxes. And from the middish 70's! Really great add, Dino, congrats.

Fish + Boom is my guess...Starro is a cool villain design for sure.

A prime era Aparo Aquaman on this cover indeed, and although hokey, I love early, Silver Age villain Starro, so cool!

I can't say enough good things about Jim Aparo's art! His ability to render action scenes with such grace is remarkable. i love his silly smooth linework and his fabulous sense of composition. Aparo reduces every scene to its essential elements and eliminates distractions. This battle between Aquaman and Starro is drawn with an eye to clarity. Aparo's ability to render emotion is shown in the agony on Aquaman's face. Just a great, great action cover from a great, great talent!

Love the sharks puzzled looks. "Damm, starfish can do that. Scratch them off the menu."

I don't remember all the FALCON requirements, but this looks pretty FALCON-y to me. Congrats Dino!
