Description

Here is an 8” x 10” commission by Dan Brereton. It’s not quite The Baroness but a very reasonable facsimile. This is his interpretation of the character that he felt most comfortable with creating and it turned out excellent. I can only imagine my bliss if he actually did draw a proper Baroness for me…

One glance and you can see the signature style!  The eye and the full lips are quite striking and tell us so much about her bad girl vibe.

Yes, you definitely know a Dan Brereton piece when you see one.  He has a very distinctive style.

I like this variant of The Countess", Baroness.   It's got some "umph" to it and want to know more of her back story.

It is definitely a very unique take on a known character.  There's a little bit of Molotov Cocktease in there as well.

Did Brereton consult with you first regarding the redesign or did he surprise you? DB paints gorgeous women but he works best with lots of color and lots of color Baroness does not have. So in a way it doesn't surprise me that he wanted to work with a wider palette of colors. This variant reminds me of when Hasbro has to reboot and redesign their G.I. Joe line to sell more units. It has the attitude of a new era.

This commission was part of a reward for backing a Kickstarter project he started a couple of years ago.  He asked for a list of 3 characters and he would choose which one he wanted to do.  He had stated that he wanted to stay away from licensed/trademarked characters.  However, sometimes creators put this stipulation in their reward descriptions in public but in private have no problems doing these characters for me.  So, I decided to test my luck and requested The Baroness as I usually do.  He wrote back saying that he wouldn't draw the Baroness but would do a unique character that was in her spirit and this commission was the result.

A girl you can bring home to meet your mother. Nice illustration by Brereton! Love the color pallet and textures.

I always appreciate all of Dan's works.  He can do no wrong artistically in my book!
