My wife has been to more comic shows than I have! She had the forethought to bring a sketchbook along with her to many of the shows she went to.

At a show in 2003, Jennifer struck up a conversation with some folks at an unmarked table. One of them said he was an artist, so as she often would do, she politely asked if he would draw something in her sketchbook. The artist took her sketchbook and asked her what she would like a drawing of. She asked the artist to draw his favorite character ever! As the artist drew, he asked her what her favorite book was and she gushed about the Rocketeer and how beautiful the artwork was. With a smile on his face, the artist handed her back the sketchbook with a head sketch of the Rocketeer. Turned out she was talking to Dave Stevens! Suffice to say she was surprised and embarrassed!
