Few people do as gritty a Batman as Bermejo.

I really dislike it when artists draw Batman in this old style, Sherlock Holmes looking outfit. But that's a great drawing!

I've always liked the use of 'wash' in b&w drawings- it adds the extra modeling, weight & volume, and in a way, tonality that acts as a single 'color'. This is a great use of the medium - it would be strong in straight pen & ink - it's even stronger and richer with wash. Wish we saw more like this - or Duncan Fegredo's excellent wash & ink work!

For those that didn't grow up w/ them- The first year or so of Warren Mags CREEPY and EERIE may have been the best EVER showcase for classic artists experimenting (and succeeding!) with WASH - Ditko, Colan, Torres, Williamson, Grandinetti, Frazetta! and others...
