DescriptionDream remark by Neil Gaiman in Sandman Absolute #1. So Neil always did his book tours where he gives lectures. I missed out on one of the tours where he had a meet and greet and saw one that was open for UCSB on my birthday. I spent the $45 on the ticket and drove 2.5 hrs for the event. I was really early and brought some stuff for a hope and a prayer that I may get lucky. So I was maybe 2hrs early? No one was around and I was chilling in the front reading the Absolute. People start to come and it gets crowded to show time. Neil was signing copies of books being sold inside. Im sitting on a bench talking with a fellow fan who came because she was also a fan of his work and wanted the day to herself. While we are talking, the director of the arts program at UCSB came out sat between us and asked us to take our books out and he will see if neil will sign it. We pass him a book and he disappears and we continue talking about his creative use of different characters. A few minutes later he comes back and hands us the books and we talk with him for a bit then he gets up and leaves. I come to find neil signed and remarked my book, probably because Kelley jones also remarked the book prior. It was the greatest birthday present to me and will never leave my side.Social/Sharing |

Thanks for sharing the story behind it, a very nice "surprise" sketch!

Yeah, it'll be a fond memory I will always have and a signature to carry to my grave.
