DescriptionThe Sleeper Strikes!!! Steve is resting and recovering from his previous adventures in this title splash, when he gets a visit by none other than Nick Fury! I love this early splash from Cap's own title, and what's not to like? Steve is reading the Daily Bugle, which talks about how Cap was rescued at sea by the coast guard, while the new page mentions some tremors rocking the city... Are those tremors caused by the fourth sleeper?? A lot of small details on the page, with some great hand lettering, some campy dialogue (with reference to The Lovin' Spoonful included), some great 60s fashion statements, and even some great credits ("Smilin' Stan Lee", "Jolly Jack Kirby", "Sizzlin' Sid Shores" and "Adorable Art Simek")... I am so happy to add this to the collection! Big thanks to Will Gabri-El for making me an offer I could not refuse!Social/Sharing |

KIRBY ftw even the folds/creases within the newspaper as he reads are done perfectly - awesome lettering too this is classic stuff for a nice Silver Age title page, love all the credits

Many congrats, Alberto! This is a wonderful piece. Syd Shores didn't ink many Cap pages but when he did, it was splendid.

Sweet piece of Kirby Cap history! People who didn't catch on with Tales of Suspense, now see Cap in his full length adventures and find the Lee/Kirby duo work their magic throughout!

A nice early Cap splash and what I like best are the Shores inks, which give Kirby's work some realistic solidity, form and texture!

Great title splash! And the reference to the Lovin' Spoonful makes me very happy.

Steve has Aquaman to thank since he called the coast guard. Was out taking the seahorse for a spin and noticed something strange bobbing in the water.

I remember seeing this at auction years ago and thinking how beautiful of a page it was and that I might be able to snag it cheap because he wasn't in costume. Still got outbid. Nice to see it again and still as gorgeous as I remember.
