DescriptionThe Baby has a Baby!Jubilee has for many years taken the spot from Kitty Pride as the innocent fledgling “Baby” X-Men. In this new volume of X-Men the baby has a baby. It was a bold move by the X creatives to transform this young X-Men character into a mother. Not only does Jubilee have the responsibility of being a member of the super-heroes team the X-Men, but now she needs to take care of this living breathing powerhouse, SHOGO LEE. This DPS showcases the reveal of Jubilee taking care of a baby, Shogo, that we later find out she officially adopts. Shogo supposedly becomes a future X-Men character known as Sentinel X, currently he’s a dragon in the Otherworld (Excalibur series). This is my first posted piece of Olivier Coipel art. I really enjoyed what he and writer Brian Wood did with the all female cast of X characters in this new volume of X-Men (from 2013). It was such a great cast of characters featuring the dynamic team of Jubilee, Rogue, Psylocke, Storm, Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) and Rachel Summers-Grey (Marvel Girl). This era of X-Men for me (art and story) had a reminiscent feel of the the Silvestri/Claremont for the cast of characters thrown together. Coipel’s artistic talent showcases character emotions so well, their intensity is felt off the page. This page features the reveal of baby Shogo with Jubilee as she tries desperately to keep him calm on a plane ride home. Evoking lots of questions of what has Jubilee been up to and who or what is this baby. Jubilee is finally coming home after a short absence and this DPS illustrates the much need to have the comfort of home and where she finds it is with the X-Men. For me, the X-Men has continually been an escape and comfort zone, in a way a second home found in the hobby of collecting/reading comics and now collecting/showcasing art. Social/Sharing |

Coipel and Morales captured the emotion well. Nice addition!

That's an incredible feat to be able to draw what would normally be a mundane plane interior and make it so detailed and emotional.

Coipel and Morales shine here, giving us a more mature Jubilee with a baby who would go on to do some very interesting things as you've noted.

I really enjoyed this book when it came out and a HUGE part of that was Coipel's art. I love the way he cleverly shifts the camera in the first panel using the negative space behind the seat and just the tiniest vertical panel line up top. Jubilee's anxiety is palpable throughout. Congrats!

Fantastic DPS. Coipel delivered some great art on this series and great to see this in it's original black and white form. It's fun to see the juxtaposition of Shogo as a baby to Ed McGuinness' design for Shogo / Sentinel X in the BOTA series (design here).

Beautiful spread by a very talented team. I love Coipel's art for its clean simplicity. His work is well matched by Morales' inks which are so crisp and sharp. Gorgeous work. Congrats on the pick-up!
