DescriptionMeeting again for the first time - Jean Grey from the time displaced original five X-Men meets Old Man LoganMy first Humberto Ramos piece! I’ve often enjoyed his art stylings from a distance but a few years back decided it was time to get a piece. When I ordered it, I was thrown off as I didn’t realize the art was a smaller 8” x 13” size for his paper on the Extraordinary X-Men series. This page brought forth some X-tra delight by having two time displaced star-crossed characters meeting for the first time (@ early 2016). At this point in the world of X-Men, only a few years prior @ 2013 (All-New X-Men), we were introduced to the time displaced Original Five X-Men and Old Man Logan joined the Earth 616 reality @ 2016 (Old Man Logan, although first really introduced in comics @ 2008, Wolverine #66). During this X-era the team of mutants were embedded in the terrigan mist conflicts and had ensconced themselves to an area in Limbo for temporary sanctuary. The time displaced X-Men had started to disperse and were living their own lives separately and Old Man Logan had only just landed in this earlier timeline and was keeping isolated to avoid killing all the X-Men of this earlier era. Jean Grey decides it’s time to bring in the big guns to a fight happening in Limbo, since their original protector, Illyana had been taken out by Sinister. The original Jean and Wolverine of this current 616 timeline were both gone; Jean Grey died in 2004 (New X-Men #150) and Wolverine in 2014 (Death of Wolverine). So these two time displaced characters were the proper ‘fill-Ins’ of this time, and at the time much more interesting characters to play with. In 2018 Jean Grey eventually returned in the Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey and Wolverine also returned in 2018 in Return of Wolverine. Ramos’s art is playful and has a unique style to almost immediately recognize that it’s his character art. In my opinion similar to how Chris Bachalo did it for Generation X. It’s also pretty fun to see how Wolverine, no matter the age or place, lives the same way (minimalist and with lots of beer cans/trash), not really someone who plants his roots anywhere too long. I also really enjoy the banter back and forth between these two, from Lemire (see published page for dialogue). It’s a quick back and forth, full of quip and ‘complicated’. Social/Sharing |

This was a fun run and I thought Ramos killed the art! Yes, super interesting to see young Jean and Old Man Logan meet! Neat stuff. Congrats!

I like the bird's-eye view and the inset close-ups. Nicely constructed page!

Young Jean breaks your heart with how pretty she is and you know that Old Man Logan can never be with her. Really great how Ramos can draw the two in different stages of their life.

Great storytelling by Ramos. He knocks it out of the park regardless of the iteration of Wolverine he's drawing.

What an expertly laid out page, James! From the large background image to the carefully instructed inset panels, Humberto is a comic book storyteller through and through. Congrats!

Whatever they are deciding they should do quick. I can see a tornado on the horizon.

Fantastic page by Humberto Ramos for Extraordinary X-Men. Very nice visual storytelling, opening with the overhead shot of the van, then moving inside with lots of different angles and closeups of Jean and Logan. Ramos has become one of the great modern comic artists working on major titles and he's just killing it! Fabulous pick-up, congrats!
