��I still dream of Krypton.�

If I were to make a list of my top books from 2022, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely would be at or near the top of that list. Beautifully illustrated by Evely with equally gorgeous colors by Mat Lopes, the story is more cosmic sci-fi Western than classic superhero yarn and ultimately explores the question of how people move on from tragedy even as their world seemingly continues to crumble around them.

Kara�s backstory, as retold in the series, makes her infinitely more nuanced and compelling, in my opinion, than a certain other well-known Kryptonian in the DC universe, so it�s nice to see her in a tale of substance in which she�s not playing second fiddle to her younger (or is it older?) boy scout cousin. In King�s narrative, we see Kara as a woman haunted by the ghosts of her past while still striving to forge a meaningful path forward.

The splash is so moving with religious symbolism of death and rebirth. The Bilquis line is lively illustration and should one day be printed in b&w in hardcover book form.
