DescriptionWith guests like David Finch and Klaus Janson at this year's FACTS Fall Edition 2024 in October, there was talent aplenty. The main name for me, though, was artist's artist and painter extraordinaire Brian Stelfreeze.I (only) discovered Brian's work through a friend at a French convention in 2018. Ever since, I've been catching up and have been loving every second of it. I really, really wanted a proper commission by Brian this time around and I did my research in the months before. No pre-show list, but I managed to get on his list on Saturday (despite plenty of competition) and signed up for a sizable commission. Only later, I found out, Brian did some color remarks at the show at very agreeable rates. Nevertheless, I stuck with my choice as how often can you commission Brian fucking Stelfreeze for a proper painting?! My idea was a more real-life version of Mary Jane, (perhaps) inspired by actress Ann-Margret. Brian nailed it. The sensual look and piercing eyes; the playfulness with the hair; the subtle tints of green and blue; the play of light and shadow (that chin and those lips!); the unexpected Spidey touch in the background; the multicolored signature. It's all there and so much more. Whenever I look at an area or different corner, I spot something new. It even depends on how the light catches the paper. Funny story - I only received this about a month after the show - one day ago - and it came in a VERY fancy enveloppe that Brian had with him. It's signed in full-width with his signature. I thought it was a print, but it's actually painted on there in an oversized manner. The main image is a picture I took with my phone, as my scanner loses some of the subtle details of Brian's work. Attached is also a scan, which shows some more details, yet with starker contrasts. Thank you so much, Brian. This is a prime example of what Mary Jane should look like. The colors on this look great here and I imagine they are even better in person. Congrats on getting on his list and getting such a beautiful piece.
