DescriptionBoy, do I like "Batman: City of Crime" by David Lapham & Ramon Bachs! It's a gritty crime noir story in the bowels of Gotham City, with some traditional and not-so-traditional Batman action. It's surprisingly - or unsurprisingly, as it's Lapham - dark for a regular DC Comics storyline, too. And it's twelve issues, so you have quite some meat to get into.If you combine that love with Ramon's announcement for Heroes Comic Con, it triggered something. It wasn't planned, but when re-reading my deluxe copy in preparation for his visit, I had decided. I needed another commission. I say another, as I had already ordered another piece. But now, a Batman! Ramon sent me his prelim and I immediately approved it - this could easily be a splash from the arc, with an imposing Batman on a gargoyle. A damaged, flowing cape. That "Animated Series" Art Deco style for Gotham's skyscrapers in the background, but the train at the bottom for the common people made me think of the crime-ridden Crown Point district, featured in the storyline. I know Bill Sienkiewicz was supposed to draw the storyline, originally, and I do love me some Bill S., but I can't see the story in any other way than by Ramon. Even despite Bill's version having been released online. A perfect Batman commission by Ramon in my book & I love the additional prelim he gave me - scan below! This was done in pencils & inks, and is 11x17. Social/Sharing |
