Description

King Features Syndicate, 1969.
Ben Bolt trains Brucey in the ring -- and boxing action is what fans of the boxing-themed strip desire most!
Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 22.5" x 16".
Slight toning, discolored stat logo panel paste-up, the panel tiers have been cut and put back together with tape on the back, a missing stripped-in text correction in Panel 4, residue staining, with creasing and light smudging/handling wear.
In Very Good condition.

Really nice Sunday! You can see why Hal Foster chose him as his replacement on Prince Valiant!

Yes! His departure from Big Ben Bolt was motivated by the offer to replace Hal Foster in Prince Valiant, who advice and supervised his work until 1982.

After Foster's death, John Cullen Murphy´s son and daughter took part in the script, and colored and labeled until 2004, respectively. As Foster did with him, Murphy also chose his replacement when he retired: Gary Gianni.

The top panel is brilliant with the wide shot of the ring with parts in shadow. Very nicely plays out the story with choice shots in and out of the ring.
